From Adam to Abraham - Week 1
Hey there, friends!
Welcome to Week One
Here is the reading for the week:
Here are some resources you may find helpful this week:
Insights and Encouragement
So far I’ve been able to complete each reading in about 15 minutes. Day 4 was the longest at 17 minutes. Be prepared for that. Total, I spent 65 minutes and 17 seconds in the readings for the week (Yes, I’m a nerd and timed it out - it’s because I love you and want you to succeed.). Technically that’s an average of 13 minutes per day in the readings, you can do almost anything for 13 minutes!
You are reading 8 chapters of Psalms, but that took me only 8 minutes to complete. They are shorter chapters. You can do it!
Remember to send me your questions. If enough of you ask the same question, I’ll be sure to address it with everyone!
You got this!
The Bible in 4 Words
The story of the Bible can be summed up in 4 words: Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration.
In this week’s reading you will see creation and fall in the first day of reading. From that point, God is moving his story to one centered on redemption. Look for themes of God’s plan to redeem his people as you read. Take note of his conversations with Abram/Abraham.
Genealogies
You will be reading a few Genealogies this week. A genealogy is basically reciting a family tree. It is important to understand that these are here to help move the story from one place to the next as well as give the history and lineage of God’s people. Don’t get lost in the names, just understand that these are here to show how we get from one place to another in the Bible.
Hebrew Poetry
We are venturing into the Psalms at the end of the week. The Psalms are Hebrew Poetry like almost one third of the Bible. Please take some time to watch the BibleProject Video on the topic. We will be discussing more about Hebrew Poetry throughout the weeks.
What I’m working on this week
This week is a matter of getting back into the rhythm of work. Last week I was off and able to spend time with Brittany and Lydia. I have a couple meetings this week with different church members.
Teaching
My teaching job starts again on Wednesday. I will be teaching my second semester of Worldview at Arthur Christian School.
I’m going to be teaching our Youth Group this weekend. We are starting a series through 1-2 Peter. I am part of the preaching rotation and will be kicking the series off for the team.
Later this month I will be leading a session in the CBA January Bible Study. I will be studying Ephesians 2 and teaching through it at the Bible Study.
At FBC Atwood, we are going to resume our series through the book of Proverbs. I’ve enjoyed our study and I am contemplating writing a book discussing the principles for living we find in Proverbs.
Something I’m enjoying
There is a newsletter service called The Pour Over. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, they send out a short newsletter with News from an unbiased, Christian perspective. I never watch the news, so its nice to be able to catch up on what’s going on in a 5 minute read three times a week.
